Helping to fill the growing need

In the Lehigh Valley, more than one in ten people don't know where they will get their next meal. One in six are children.

The good news is that great people are out working to ensure that people in our community don't go hungry.

At Allentown West Rotary Club, we are fortunate to have forged relationships with like-minded charitable organizations specifically fighting hunger. At our regular in-person club meetings we hear about how the lines at the pantries are growing. Our members who help with the food distribution talk about how it can be a moving experience in many ways. You are always welcome to join us as an individual on any AWRC volunteer project. We are a friendly group, as are those that take up this sort of work that pays absolutely nothing—in monetary terms.

Meet our Partners

There are many fine charitable organizations around the Lehigh Valley made up of people who care about our community; we don't know them all, but here are the ones with whom have had a relationship with:

The Food Bank at Kingdom Life Family Center

Feeding the hungry and those in need through our local Food Pantry located right here at Kingdom Life Family Center is one of our biggest and most heart-felt community services. Call the Church Office at (610) 398-0111 for an updated schedule or visit us on Facebook. Food Bank & Grocery Giveaways are on Saturdays at 8:30 am only. Visit our on line calendar for specific dates. Come prepared to be loved unconditionally.

The Food Bank operates purely with the help of volunteers. More are needed. If you can't volunteer, you can still help. Funds are always needed to purchase food for those in need. Pastor Jean Masiko is a long-time Allentown West Rotary Club member and is directly involved in this work, so we hear about how many more families come.

Parkland CARES Food Pantry

Parkland CARES strives to feed and serve every member of our community affected by and suffering from hunger.

Parkland CARES Food Pantry was established in 2018 by a dedicated group of individuals with a collective goal to fight hunger in their community. Determined to aid the nearly 27% of children and their families in the Parkland community suffering from hunger, the idea and plan for Parkland CARES was put in place. In June of 2019, the Pantry opened its doors for the first time to just 12 families.

Two times a month, families were invited in to the Pantry to shop for the items that best suited their needs. They were welcomed to the aromas of fresh brewed coffee and pastries along with friendly smiles. They then shopped the Pantry shelves and refrigerators for non-perishable goods, milk, cheese, meats and fresh fruits and vegetables. By December of 2019, the Pantry had fed over 100 households.

Then in March of 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, everything changed. Parkland CARES rapidly switched from a Choice Pantry model to a Contactless Drive Thru Distribution once monthly at Kernsville Elementary. While attending the distribution, families receive non-perishable food, fresh produce, eggs, meat and other donated items. Parkland CARES, along with Second Harvest Food Bank, Orchard Hills Church, Eight Oaks Farm Distillery, The Nesting Box Farm Market and Creamery, Life Church, Allentown West Rotary Club, and many more community partners, continues to fulfill its mission even in the most difficult of times. Parkland CARES is proud to serve its community alongside its dedicated board, volunteers and all the businesses and organizations that continue to ensure that no child, family or individual should ever go hungry, no matter the circumstance.

The need continues to grow. You can make a difference right now.
